I mean, what planet does this doctor live on? YES! Many thousands of people really do believe masks are hazardous. Some of them are even our fellow physicians. I know. I've encountered them online and in person.https://twitter.com/drjohnm/status/1322284518573789185?s=20 …

Moreover, some of these people actively spread antimask disinformation, leading more people to come to the wrong conclusion that masks are harmful or potentially dangerous, thus facilitating the spread of
#COVID19.Show this thread -
Seriously, this might be a "Well, duh!" study, but when combatting the antimask propagandists it's useful to have studies like this, as obvious as their designs and conclusions might be, to help combat antimask disinformation.

The good doctor's take is a large reason why we have so much difficulty combatting
#COVID19 disinformation. Just as@VPrasadMDMPH thinks it's beneath doctors to debunk, say, homeopathy, others seem to think debunking disinformation about simple aspects of#COVID19 is beneath themShow this thread

I get why it was done (I'm always pointing out why we need "but that's obvious" studies), but with only 25 participants... erg.

He, and some of the others who agree with him seem to think it is pointless because no one will be convinced. They seem to think the goal is to change the ridiculous anti-maskers mind, rather than the often confused minds of their targets.

The problem is that doctors and scientists have been acting as political reactionaries, using science to support or disprove politicians when we should be using science to answer questions. With a novel virus at pandemic level there are more questions than answers.

We should be having debates about the studies and challenge methods and conclusions. We should never have gotten in the middle of the political fight. There should be no Team Fauci or Team HCQ. The damage done to the credibility of science and medicine was done from within.
