There's a category of analogous procedures. My impression has been that the point is to eliminate a visible scar. In some cases, the procedures apparently result in faster recovery times than the traditional surgical path. (I read a lot, but not about this stuff, confidence 80%.)

So, the removal of a gallbladder through the vagina? Huh. Is this instead of a lap or an alternative to conventional surgery?

C’mon. My laparoscopic cholecystectomy, even 22 years ago, barely left any marks. It was super fast, and my 1 week recovery was terrific—no work, no complications, doting family/friends, very restful (and enjoyed the immediate post-surgery warm blankies and morphine). Good stuff.
