If only there were an effective way to prevent shingles... If only...pic.twitter.com/x8m196fXWq

Is he of the age it’s approved for? I am pro vaccine. And I am anti quackery. But the shingles vaccine isn’t approved for all ages. I’ve had shingles. I was too young (& still am) for my drug plan to cover the shingles vaccine. As soon as my plan covers it, I’ll get it.

I realize not everyone can afford it without insurance and that's a while other big conversation, but he certainly could pay for it himself.

That’s fair. Once I’m back to work (on mat leave now), I want to save up for it. But realistically I have a couple more pressing things to save up for first. I’m in Canada; childhood vaccines are covered. I have a good drug plan, but it won’t cover as I’m “too young”. Sigh!

I am also too young... despite having had shingles once already and being in my mid 40s and having some other risk factors for complications. You would think that would qualify me, but nope. I am also in Canada but too poor to pay for it. Oh the joys.

I was too old for varicella vaccine - I got chicken pox about a year before it came out! I think I was 12 or 13.

I got chicken pox but don't remember. I was maybe 2 yrs old. Apparently it wasn't a bad case either.

The varicella vaccination didn't exist when I was a kid. I remember getting chickenpox when I was around seven. I was utterly miserable (and recall making my mom utterly miserable as well).

It didn't exist either for me. 70s baby here. Pretty sure we still had pox parties back then! 😬

My mom was worried because of my age (12 or 13). She was an icu nurse who had had a young adult patient die of chicken pox a couple years before then. I had a moderate case - I was miserable, but no medical intervention required.
