Many people have probably heard about the Great Barrington Declaration, denouncing social distancing and calling for "herd immunity." It's popular with the White House, and it's the product of a Koch-linked think tank 1/https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/19/health/coronavirus-great-barrington.html …

Of course, the three scientists needing
#GreatBarringtonDeclaration are generally well regarded, but only one of them, Sunetra Gupta, is an infectious disease epidemiologist. The other two are a biostatistician and a doctor interested in health economics. -

Thank you for sharing! I didn’t know the term,
#magnifiedminorty, & it is REALLY important to put a name to what is happening in science re#GreatBarringtonDeclaration - the number of times I’ve had to explain that this view is from a fringe group & not widely supported is tough -
My quibble with “magnified minority” is that I think “magnified fringe” is a better term, as the positions amplified by magnified minority are usually very tiny minority opinions. I realize they were trying to be more neutral and nonjudgmental, but we’re talking about fringe!

I would argue those people are opportunists as they do not seem to follow scientific method at all, but hide under the banner of scientists because they did receive an education in science. They just choose money over actual science.

As a science teacher, seeing this playbook being used yet again is so frustrating!
