Every year I stop running when it gets too cold and gross out and this year I'm determined not to, because I will lose my goddamned mind if quarantine keeps me stuck inside the apt all winter. Running twitter: how do you run in inclement weather without being utterly miserable?

Take up mountain biking. It will keep you warmer when you’re riding than road cycling will. And there is something magical about riding in the woods when it’s snowing.

I'm in Canada & I attempt to bike all seasons. I've been slowly accumulating the gear needed to survive the 10 km bike to work. I find the snow worse than the cold. Given the ongoing covidity & lack of other opportunities to exercise, I may get snow tires on the bike this year

Get really good gloves. I bought really heavy wind proof bike gloves- worth every penny.

I bike commuted for several years and found bad weather a valuable tool with my employees. "The weather is pretty bad, I don't know if I can come in." "I came to work on a bicycle." " ... I'll be in soon."

You need cycling specific clothing if you can afford it, moist.wiking, breathable, wind proof and water resistant. Start cold because you’ll be sweating in no time if over dressed, gloves are a must. Many other tips online. You have to tough it out the first weeks until used to

However if it isn’t fun and you are miserable out then don’t. All the tips I found online helped me becoming a winter cyclist. I don’t go out when too dangerous. And winter tires if you can afford them

For both running and bicycling: a shell is important to cut wind effect. You don’t need heavy material for either one. Some tech wick shirt with light fleece top and shell, light to medium weight fleece tights for running. If windy, heavier weight tights.

I also don’t bike below 35°. Comfort and safety (icing). Used to run down to 25° if not windy, now low to mid 30s.
-
My limit’s usually been around 40°...
