Conspiracy theories are orthogonal to believing absurdities. Many (most) people believe illogical/fantastical ideas without conspiracy attached.

Yes but, unlike simply illogical beliefs, the nature of conspiracy theory is inherently violent as the cast the believer as at odds with other people who are seen as criminal, dishonest, even satanic. No one shoots up a pizzaria over believing in purple dragons, but pizzagate...
