Well what we don’t want are people who end up in permanent seats. I get the motivation. You never want them to feel “safe” so they go emeritus and turn into crackpots. But, term limits eliminate expertise. You want a rep who is on powerful committees, and knows the ropes.
Ranked choice voting and top 4 candidates move from primary to main election would allow us to move away from extremes.
Term limits can mean a lot of things, like not more than 20 years or something. People in power do not get more virtuous with time
And elections mean that every 2 to 6 years we have a chance to kick them to the curb.
Ppl who voted for a nutcase will vote for another nutcase. Ending gerrymandering & introducing instant run-off voting for primary & general elections wd make them more competitive & thus less likely that a seat would be held by the same for as long, without eliminating experience
