One thing I never really expected in the great science wars is to see people argue that consensus is either meaningless, or actually bad.

From what I can tell, that's a bit of a misinterpretation of the discussion. I don't think anybody thinks it's meaningless or bad. But they do think that it doesn't settle a debate, for rather obvious reasons. Consensus is often wrong.

But that’s not what we’re talking about. What we’re talking about is hostility to the *very concept* of a scientific consensus, to the claim that if it’s consensus it’s not science.
