When I was doing A level chemistry in 1977 l mouth pipetted some CeSO4 into my mouth. God it tasted awful. Rather than spitting it out I walked to the teacher who told me to spit it out. No idea why I didn't just gob it into the sink. Horrid stuff.
Did that in Chemistry lab 1974-1976. Didn't mind that as much as dissecting roaches in the biology lab. There wasn't a single glove in sight anywhere 
They were still telling people not to do it in the early 1990s
