I’m not so sure this is correct. Indeed, a compelling case can be made that this is exactly the sort of thing that could greatly improve Trump’s chances of winning by firing up his base and evangelicals.

I'm pretty sure his base and evangelicals were planning to vote for him anyway. They only get one vote; what the hell difference does it make if they're "fired up"? That case is by no means 'compelling'. Actually, it's stupid AF!
