Basically, he’s saying he thinks trust the professionals at @US_FDA who would become reviewing an EUA won’t let the administration push them around and force turn to approve a vaccine they’re not comfortable s as approving. 2/

Unfortunately,
@FDACommissioner@SteveFDA has ALREADY shown he can be pushed by@realDonaldTrump, as evidenced by previous EUAs for#Hydroxycholoroquine and convalescent plasma. 3/Show this thread -
With my 15+ year history combating antivaccine disinformation and suffering for it as a result, I’ll put my provaccine bona fides up against those of anyone, including
@DrPaulOffit,@DrPanMD, or@PeterHotez. 4/Show this thread -
That being said, I will almost certainly not be able to trust a vaccine approved by EUA by
@realDonaldTrump’s@US_FDA before the election. I’ll need to see the data on efficacy and safety, and I’d much prefer a formal FDA approval. 5/5Show this thread -
And if you doubt what I say about the pressure
@realDonaldTrump is bringing to bear on@US_FDA, conveniently there was this@washingtonpost story yesterday. Basically Trump is staking his reeelection on the authorization of a vaccine before the election.https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-vaccine-election/2020/09/05/c0da86d6-edf5-11ea-99a1-71343d03bc29_story.html …Show this thread

That’s extremely disappointing he’d have that take. I agree with you too. I feel exactly the same. And this makes everyone’s job harder communication wise re: antivaxxers

I haven’t trusted him for months. He has financial interests in too many pots to be trusted.
