#MedTwitter we are doctors or physicians, not providers. “Provider” was a term first used by The Third Reich (Nazis) to devalue Jewish physicians as medical professionals. When someone calls you a provider -- help educate them.

You've been misled, I'm afraid. Behandler *loosely* translates to provider. And yes, the goal of stripping Jewish docs of the physician title during the Holocaust was to disenfranchise them. Do you feel particularly disenfranchised as a 21st century American physician?

Not even “loosely.” It’s *quite* a stretch to translate it as “provider.”

It's such a ridiculous argument. There is not a single doc that propagates this ahistorical BS that didn't already hate the word provider before they learned of the madeup Nazi connection.

Yup. It depresses me to see how credulous, how gullible, my fellow physicians can be in the service of supporting their preexisting beliefs.
