I’ve noticed that, whenever I criticize acupuncture as the quackery based on prescientific mysticism and theatrical placebo that it is, inevitably some who claim to “hate woo” will express *considerable* displeasure.

Plenty of referrals for quackery in chronic pain. If the practitioner doesn't believe the patient's experience, why wouldn't they refer for unproven, unsupported 'interventions' Allied health has a role; quackery doesn't

I don’t understand your response. It isn’t up to them to “believe” someone’s pain. It’s up to them to find the cause of the pain. After months of back and forth and throwing out acupuncture referrals, this patient convinced the doctor to run a MRI where a cause of pain was found.

They recommend it for chronic pain, but naturally patients have to pay for it out of pocket. Because people with chronic pain are known to be rolling in extra cash.
