Man, one thing that's being hammered home now that the roles are reversed and I'm the family member of someone needing surgery is that the system is very, very impersonal.

This is why I wear an N95 whenever I can when I go out in public into situations where there will be a lot of people indoors. Regular masks might protect other people, but I need to protect myself too.

This is a bugbear if mine. General consensus that bad masking is better than no masking undermines the point of ‘proper’ masking. Yes it should be called out as wrong to educate and enforce, and protect better.

This is too true and such a sad reflection of our society's ability to show empathy for the health of others. I was able to get a hold of some KN95 masks and wear them whenever I go out. At work, while behind plexiglas I wear my cloth ones with a filter in them.
