He's not wrong. I've been saying this for a long time. So many resources were sunk into clinical trials for #Hydroxychloroquine that it sucked the oxygen out of the clinical trial space for trials of other promising #COVID19 therapeutics.https://twitter.com/DrTomFrieden/status/1297707995896446977 …

It wasn't just
#Hydroxychloroquine.@US_FDA's massive expanded access program for#ConvalescentPlasma pretty much guaranteed that no clinical trials would accrue enough patients to determine if plasma works. Why should they when they could get the plasma without being on trial?6 replies 6 retweets 31 likesShow this thread -
The Trump experience has shown how vulnerable medical systems and institutions are, to political influence and meddling. The FDA and the CDC need to be protected from the whims of the Executive branch of government, to preserve our democracy and the ethical practice of medicine.

Indeed. The apolitical nature of
@CDCgov,@US_FDA,@NSF,@NIH, etc. is just that, more a tradition than due to hard law. Unfortunately, the laws designed to ensure that these science organizations remain apolitical are weak and, as@realDonaldTrump has shown, easily subverted.1 reply 5 retweets 12 likes
If there's one thing that the EUAs for #Hydroxychloroquine and #ConvalescentPlasma have shown us, it's that @POTUS can subvert law and regulations to bypass good science in order to achieve a political end.
