We were supposed to have one, "theory of knowledge," but the teacher was incompetent and couldn't get a handle on the students and they used it as freetime to hurl insults at each other in a mock "fish bowl discussion." Or we watched a bunch of documentaries to "make you think."

I think it should be something where the basics are introduced to students as early as grade school. Then it should be simultaneously reinforced and expanded up through high school. IMO a class can be forgotten, but regular reinforcement becomes more a part of your outlook.

My high school offered a media literacy elective. I didn’t take it. Now I’m wondering if it taught that stuff.

Statistics is as close as you’ll get. I’ve always wanted to have two critical thinking courses be mandatory in college. 1 for first years to get them prepared for learning. 1 done on your last semester from your major to think critically wishing your focus.

I actually took a film class as an undergraduate in propaganda. It was very interesting. It taught how film can be used to manipulate with. Of course we saw the NAZI series along with the why we fight series

I’ve long said the best course I took in undergrad was a fabulous course by
@Kane_WMC_Lab called “belief in weird things” and after going to medical school it’s higher yield than biochem tbh -
That’s so nice of you to say, thank you.

I had a dad with a great bullshit detector, and a high school history/govt teacher who was a "small l libertarian" who questioned everything. I wish I could reincarnate either of them to teach a class in critical thinking!
