Poor @nickgillespie, so triggered that a local film festival decided to remove "Kindergarten Cop" from its lineup. It must be "cancel culture"! In actuality, it wasn't a very good movie; so no great loss.

I don't think it’s such a stupid take. Also, the juxtaposition of extreme violence with the attempt to make a seemingly family-friendly comedy was exceedingly jarring.

From the Wikipedia article: Roger Ebert said the film: "is made up of two parts that shouldn't fit, but somehow they do, making a slick entertainment out of the improbable, the impossible and Arnold Schwarzenegger" and awarded it three stars.

Ebert agrees with the jarring, so I'll defer. But comparing it The Birth Of A Nation is only defensible if one aims to diminish how horrible The Birth Of A Nation is.
