Why is #Hydroxychloroquine still a thing for #COVID19? If it were any other drug, the drip-drip-drip off negative studies, first observational and now more and more randomized controlled trials, would have sunk it long ago. Truly, HCQ pushers resemble a cult.

Some folks say that hcq has been shown to have no beneficial effect. It probably doesn’t. However, a reasonable pro-HCQ position would be that studies are insufficiency powered to establish that it has no beneficial effect. That’s a high bar.

The problem with that argument is that
#Hydroxychloroquine advocates tout the drug as a miracle cure. They’re not saying it has a modest effect. They’re saying it’s a “game changer” to end the pandemic. Existing studies have certainly been sufficiently powered to rule that out.5 replies 8 retweets 72 likes -

Shoot I’m not even saying it has a modest effect. I’m saying that failure to statistically prove an effect isn’t that same as statistically proving a lack of effect.

Oh, goody. You're attacking a straw man then, as I never said that.

I just said exactly the same thing...not proving an effect isn’t proving no effect. This thread is full of people saying it is proven to not work. That’s logically wrong.

You cannot prove a negative. was this study insufficiently powered? https://www.bmj.com/content/369/bmj.m1849 … How many patients would you expose to potentially serious adverse effects to get your proof?

I don’t want or need such proof. I just want the language around this to be precise so the kooks can’t pick on the wording to support their contention that we are lying about the hcq studies.

Ah, so you’re concern trolling. Got it now.
