Skipping Phase 3 of clinical trials and rushing out a COVID-19 vaccine is a *terrible* idea. It goes against medical ethics, puts people at greater risk and undermines trust in the vaccine approval system. It causes more problems than it tries to solve. Let me explain. 1/10

It’s bad form for a writer to blame first his readers for misunderstanding him, rather than asking first if he screwed up communicating what he meant.

In essence, giving out millions of doses of a vaccine would render the completion of a concurrent phase 3 trial impossible. Why would anyone enroll and risk getting a placebo when they don’t have to? Why wouldn’t everyone conclude that the vaccine must work?
