Wrong. Most conspiracy theories these days involve #COVID19, vaccines, antifa, or the “deep state.” What planet is “Prison Planet” guy from? https://twitter.com/prisonplanet/status/1285762568091578369?s=21 …https://twitter.com/PrisonPlanet/status/1285762568091578369 …

It’s all harmless fun until someone decides to shoot up or set fire to a pizza place.

Even the so-called "fun" conspiracies can have a darker side to them. How many people have been harmed because they were told their visions of aliens/ghosts/demons were real instead of hypnagogic/hypnopompic hallucinations? Never mind the rabbit hole of Flat Earth/space denial.

Well, hang on... where do antivax conspiracies come from? It's not out of desire to harm. It's because the pharma industry and government have squandered their credibility with the public in so many ways. It's an expression of that institutional failure.

Vaccines have a really good track record, if anyone can be bothered to look. They are exhaustively tested for safety and efficacy. Individually and in combination with other vaccines.

Even the ones where the content seems like "harmless fun" get nasty--look at Flat Earther or UFO conspiracy forums and it doesn't take long to find the people ranting about how the Jews are behind it all. They all go there sooner or later.
