For year, the Michigan Republican Party has functioned as though we're a deep red state, embracing extremist positions and guarding power with gerrymandering. As a result, many people reporting on them think it's normal, when it's actually a weird way to win truly fair elections.

Why not? Outside of the main urban areas, huge swaths of Michigan might as well be Alabama, and with gerrymandering it worked for them.
