You know, I'm a sucker for old Westerns, and @MeTV delivers. I love “Gunsmoke," and right now I’m watching “Have Gun, Will Travel," which was a great show from the late 1950s/early 1960s.
Yeah, I know. That was racist as hell. If you ignore the "Hey Boy" part, though, the show was amazingly good, even by today's standards.

The name was racist but the character was always portrayed as intelligent and treated with respect.

Yes. I was amazed at that when I saw a rerun recently. And that was in the 1950’s I believe. My thought was that it was not only good modeling but subversive as well.
