Antivaxxer @delbigtree posted a rant denying the severity of #COVID19, blaming the chronically ill for having made themselves vulnerable to severe disease through their lifestyle choices, and urging the healthy to “catch this cold.” Dangerous idiocy.https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/antivaccine-leader-del-bigtree-on-covid-19-lets-catch-this-cold-why-antivaxxers-and-coronavirus-conspiracy-theorists-are-often-one-in-the-same/ …

What do you all think about the 30% decrease in child mortality during the lockdown? I’d love to hear so thoughtful explanations.

Funny you should ask. I question whether that decline is real (too early to tell), and even if it is that doesn't mean that it's due to decreased vaccination leading to a decrease in SIDS, as antivaxxers claim.https://respectfulinsolence.com/2020/06/19/becker-and-blaxill-use-covid-19-to-claim-vaccines-cause-sids/ …

Do I have your points right: the CDC numbers from as far back as March and April and anything after that may change (it’s too early); infants died less but other kids also died less too (although at a lower rate); maybe it was from driving less or something else?

Why do you seem so predisposed to believe that it must be the decline in vaccination rates? Because you do seem to me to be very inclined to believe the antivaccine spin on this observation.

simply looking for a reasonable explanation. It’s simple coorelation. All that does is warrant further study. Nothing in your blog even suggests coorelation except maybe car accidents but we’d need to see data for the under 1 group that shows that was a pre lockdown killer

There is already abundant epidemiological evidence that vaccines are not associated with SIDS. Reaching for such an association against all evidence says a lot about you.
