Dr. Angela RasmussenVerified account @angie_rasmussenHey, mask enthusiasts. Cool to disagree and debate the merits of various positions. Not cool to see that a woman criticized your interpretation of the data and, rather than wait for her to respond to your multiple responses, email her boss and demand that she retract a tweet. https://twitter.com/angie_rasmussen/status/1254918783975620608 … pic.twitter.com/JUcLUhcfmr1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes -

The thread had links to several papers about masking, but not the infamous Molina PNAS paper. Howard's email to
@angie_rasmussen dept. totally inappropriate. I must have missed something; is he pro-mask but anti-social distancing or something?1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes -
My issue with fervent mask enthusiasm in general has to do with the fact that the types of studies Dr. Osmundson mentions: these droplet dispersal studies don't address fundamental aspects of the virology, yet they are cited really uncritically as evidence of mask efficacy.

Masks DO reduce droplet dispersal, but they do not eliminate it. Furthermore, although a lot of the really hardcore pro-masking people like Howard dismiss concerns about people not wearing masks correctly, *how* people wear masks and mask material does impact risk reduction.

Have to agree with
@angie_rasmussen about data on masks: thus far weak stuff. A new study from@Health_Affairs strengthens case, but mask mandates could be proxies for other protective behavior changes. 1/ https://www.healthaffairs.org/doi/full/10.1377/hlthaff.2020.00818 …2 replies 2 retweets 15 likes -

But the downsides to mask wearing are few, so I do it anyway. My old doc, Joe Sonnabend recommended condom use early on, the same month they discovered HIV in 1983, so then no glove, no love; now, no mask, don't ask is my new mantra. 2/

Oh and
@jeremyphoward, not, not cool to take a fellow researcher to task for challenging you in public. If you can't take the heat of debate, with other scientists, don't go crying to their superiors. It's odious, sexist bullying behavior and we should all reject it. end/pic.twitter.com/oFyFRaz4B4
