Can someone who knows more about this than me, comment on the following: Why are ‘resident clinics’ for patients with Medicaid or uninsured while ‘faculty clinics’ are for patients with private insurance? Racism? Classism? Should this be stopped?

Yes, it’s segregated care. This is purely about economics of clinics and reimbursement based on their insurer. For example, in my region Medicaid paid 48 cents to the Medicare dollar in primary care, which is already much lower than private insurance...

It’s also an old practice that predates Medicaid. It was thought of as a way for residents to gain independent experience. I’m not defending it. It’s a holdover from many decades ago that sense in its time as a means of providing care for the indigent but hasn’t for a long time.
