I got it wrong about something. It turns out that @TheLancet #hydroxychloroquine/#COVID19 study was likely fraudulent, thanks to a small, very dodgy company called Surgisphere. Here, I admit my error and try to set things right.https://respectfulinsolence.com/2020/06/05/surgisphere-debacle/ …

If authors fake data, does that mean people who discuss the data have made an error? Medical sleuths were able to find the errors, but that required specific knowledge and we read papers thinking the authors have presented the data in good faith.

My not looking into Surgisphere more closely, even though I had a nagging feeling something wasn't quite right as I perused its website, was my main mistake. I know I don't have the specialized knowledge to spot the discrepancies in the data; so I don't beat myself up over that.

Good self reflective piece and thread. I too am furious for the same reasons. I don't have a barrow to push re hcq. While you quoted me via the Guardian I think you may not have seen my 30 May blog post where I called out the data as probably fabricated:http://freerangestats.info/blog/2020/05/30/implausible-health-data-firm …
