I got it wrong about something. It turns out that @TheLancet #hydroxychloroquine/#COVID19 study was likely fraudulent, thanks to a small, very dodgy company called Surgisphere. Here, I admit my error and try to set things right.https://respectfulinsolence.com/2020/06/05/surgisphere-debacle/ …

Also, I will block trolls and bots posting after this Twitter thread. I'll take my lumps for my previous error, but that doesn't mean I have to tolerate trolls and bots.

And again late treatment on almost dying patient. I read high mortality rate about this one. Do we expect a drug to do miracles on very severe patients? At this stage the virus is long gone how could it be significantly efficient? I don't understand the point of these studies.

This retraction changes little to nothing in the big picture. Thanks for addressing it so quickly cause I love citing your posts. The deniers, however, will always find something to cling to no matter what.

That is correct. As I said in my post, before the Surgisphere study, there were already a number of observational studies that failed to find even a hint of a signal of benefit from
#Hydroxychloroquine in#COVID19 patients. Retraction of this study doesn't change that. - Show replies

Columbia-NEJM study: mysterious missing data computations and much worse hypoxia in treatment group even after propensity matching. U Minn- NEJM study has all types of data measurement and bias possibilities- even the outcome is not measured. So many studies are giving hcq late

I like to think this particular incident wouldn't have gotten so far if other people hadn't pushed in the opposite direction for their own selfish reasons. I hope people will learn from this that if you try to force the results you wish for, you end up with bad science.

You still went after a colleague and said he was full of shit on Twitter. As a fellow doctor/researcher, that sort of behaviour is unacceptable. Sorry.
