If there’s any justice at all, @Surgisphere will lose all business and go bankrupt. It just handed the #Hydroxychloroquine conspiracy theorists a huge propaganda victory. 1/https://twitter.com/TheLancet/status/1268613313702891523 …

There are plenty of other observational studies now that strongly suggest #Hydroxychloroquine doesn’t work against #COVID19, and @Surgisphere just gave the cultists and conspiracy theorists a talking point to call them all into doubt in the mind of the public. 2/

Of course, the randomized clinical trial of #Hydroxychloroquine for the prevention of #COVID19 was published yesterday. It was negative. That’s stronger evidence that the drug doesn’t work. 3/3 https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2016638 …

Ever heard of PCR test? What's the point doing a RCT trial simply on symptoms and not compare severity and mortality?

They did compare mortality (which was 0 in each group). The reason for the lack of lab testing is explained in the paper. Absolutely a limitation, but one they acknowledge & explain.

I keep saying: the public’s distrust of experts has more to do with experts not cleaning their own house than they would like to admit... but hey, we live in a blame-everyone-else, narcissistic society... so blame Trump.

Did you read the methods? Recruitment over social media, self reporting, they sent meds by courier! Surprised this was ethics approved! Only 20 lab confirmed cases...in total! Poor science continues at NEJM

Though the method of the later remains questionable .. I am not advocating for the drug but i think its the cheaper drug with an acceptable therapeutic window in the absence of contraindications. I believe we should wait for more trial results .

A study launched per internet, no participant tested before during and after the intake of HCQ, 4 days trial, not one single "patient" saw a doctor ? is this how the golden standard of trials is performed for a vaccine, or a drug like remdisivir ?

Miracle! A doctor treated 1146 patients with that therapy and they all healed quickly. A miracle or he was doing something right.
