The opening credits sequence and first scene after of “Once Upon a Time in the West” are a master class in a slow build of tension. It’s the sort of moviemaking that would be impossible today. Audiences no longer have the patience for such a slow build.

I remember seeing this in HS in the early 70s. One of the best things is the guys waiting are all familiar 'Tough guy' actors. Then they are gone.
