The misspelling of “hypocrites” and the pastor conveniently being out of town at the time raise the definite possibility that it wasn’t really an atheist group who did this. Insurance, perhaps?https://twitter.com/NickAtNews/status/1263783485535399938 …

I'm not saying an atheist couldn't have done this. Certainly there are hateful, destructive atheists. It's just that the misspelled word, the attempt at the "A" for atheist symbol left behind, and the pastor being out of town get my skeptical antennae twitching furiously.

There's something to be said about making things too obvious, which is what this looks like to me.

I'll be honest, there are some terrible people in the atheist community, and it's not impossible. But this definitely looks like a clumsy attempt to frame atheists.

Especially when "atheist group" is only a thing in the fevered minds of evangelicals

Offerings got to be running low right now. A lot of churches are close to being bankrupt. I think insurance fraud is definitely high on the list of possible motives.

Atheists don’t really hate Christians. It’s more like pity. I’m agnostic because I think it’s mostly pointless to argue about either unfalsifiable view but both groups can be goofy and annoying. Although I can see an anarchists or nazis doing this because they hate everybody.

But when is the last time a Nazi torched a church? I can't think of any.
