WTF happened to John Ioannidis? Or did I miss this sort of tendency all along?https://twitter.com/GidMK/status/1262956011872280577 …

You’re not alone. It’s shocking and saddening, and I wonder if somehow I chose to overlook this character trait because he was saying stuff I agreed with.
A few years back Angora Rabbit had a great breakdown of Ioannodis' problematic tendencies in a post on SBM that hit the nail on the head. Seems he is a contrarian for contrarian sake as opposed to someone truly seeking improvement of the scientific method.
(1/n) WRT nutritional epidemiology, he said that it always arrives at the wrong conclusion. Now, stop and think for a second what that means... We've found an amazing and cheap way to find cause-and-effect: just take the opposite of the conclusion as the true result!
(2/2) We'd never need to run another RCT again!
You missed it all along. He was always trying to discredit valid epidemiological findings in the service of big industry.
And that is why you wouldn’t make Ioannidis’ mistake. You are capable of acknowledging error.
Possibly, but I don’t pretend that it’s any easier for me to admit it than it is for anyone else.
