It's offensive how these nearly all white, privileged, often affluent, and, above all, entitled antivaxxers love likening themselves to oppressed peoples, their favorite analogies being to Jews during the Holocaust, African-American slaves, blacks during the civil rights era. 2/

Antivaxxers making these comparisons are so tone-deaf and oblivious to what real oppression and persecution look like that they misappropriate examples of real oppression as having anything to do with their "struggle." 3/3

Halo! the unroll you asked for:
@gorskon: This is a new#COVID19 antivax meme going around, although the comparison is nothing new. White, privileged… https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1262721242043310080.html … See you soon.

What worries me more than the "insane outliers" coming up with that stuff is how quickly many gobble up that narrative and spread it around. German anti-vaxxers / corona-skeptics have already repurposed the "yellow jew star" from the Hitler era for T-Shirts. Crazy spreads fast.pic.twitter.com/8RbkBy6RaB

In Germany, some anti-vaxxers have started strolling around with red triangles (because OF COURSE their "suffering" easily compares to that of political prisoners in concentration camps). The most deluded even wear the Star of David (yay for downplaying Holocaust). Disgusting.
-
Oh, antivaxxers in the US have been drawing syringes on yellow Stars of David for years and wearing them as though they were Jews in Nazi-occupied Europe and their refusal to vaccinate was why they were being sent to the camps. Disgusting indeed.

These folks and the people making Third Reich comparisons need to be punched. Seriously.

To be fair, the people touting this stuff have never had much self awareness to begin with. A video of a woman trying to get into a market without a mask on said she's the modern rosa parks and I almost spat out my tea

I’ve heard that one before. I’ve also heard them compare themselves to the lunch counter sit-in protesters.
