I think the biggest challenge is that we always want to feel we are doing *something.* Giving patients oxygen, DVT prevention, and hoping for the best was hard.

Yup. The imperative to “do something, anything” is powerful, even when that something could be harmful. It’s the most dangerous bias physicians have.

This is true about almost all "professionals" sadly - medical & nursing schools don't teach or spend time practicing the emotional coping skills for managing frantic patient after patient and families constantly demanding unproven drugs or treatments. Decision are emotional.
