I view that as ‘unfortunately.’

The adoption of pseudoscience in medicine can't happen without the use of misinformed consent by physicians. This is usually unwitting, because usually the doctor mistakenly believes that the pseudoscience works, but it is misinformed consent nonetheless.
-
Extraordinary thing to say. Doctors unwittingly believing pseudoscience. You mean a therapy of which you personally don't approve?

Extremely important point & excellent term. It is wrong (and should be illegal!) to lie or make false claims about any form of therapy. No decent/honourable CAM practitioner would do so. Where/when this happens it's indefensible.
-
I bet you make completely unvetted and unproven health claims about CBD and cannibis all the damned time. I'd say "physician, heal thyself", but it's clear you're no such thing.

Agree. I've called this the two hat fallacy. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.2042-7166.2011.01135.x … A healthcare provider can't wear one hat for consent during a science-informed therapy & a diff one when talking about "alternative" therapies. Ethics & law demands a consistent, evidence-informed approach.pic.twitter.com/t0RQDgWwqk

This is how
#psych falls in the cracks@CaulfieldTim - when patients ask: does yoga decrease stress - the answer is yes. But when stress becomes PTSD yoga isn’t a ‘therapy’ but it often recommended. Again -#mentalillness becomes a ‘wellness’ playground.#sciencematters - Show replies

Ahhhh... by “misinformed consent” I think you mean when relative risks and relative benefits are relayed to the patient as if they are absolute rather than relative, no? This is the bread and butter of the prescription hawkers, er, MDs, no? “Consent”... surely you jest.

Does at least show though that your view is not all-pervasive. With the Sci Am author on this one.
