Except that we aren’t talking about “demonizing” anyone or anything. We’re talking legitimate harsh criticism of bad science from someone who really should have known better and who also went on Fox News with that bad science.🙄https://twitter.com/drjohnm/status/1255111521564266498 …

Well, just when we seemingly hit a lull in #COVID19 news, the former dean of Harvard Med School @jflier and @VPrasadMDMPH pen an important editorial on the dangers of demonizing opposing views in science. https://www.statnews.com/2020/04/27/hear-scientists-different-views-covid-19-dont-attack-them/ … Brief Thread

I may regret this but here goes. -I have not listened to him on Fox -He is an established scientist at Stanford. -Unlike modelers, his group attempted to collect actual data. They published it. -Paper had flaws, all do. -Conclusion may have over-reached (unusual?)

->1 academic has messaged me about their fears speaking on #COVID19 -The ad hominin attacks DO have a demonizing and chilling effect—especially in the current politicized debate -If “bad science” is an offense deserving of ad hominin, oh boy, cardiology science is in trouble.

It goes both ways. I’ve been attacked for calling out bad #COVID19 science. There’s a veritable bot and troll army waiting to do that.

I hear you. For many years on #MedTwitter I have largely avoided trolling and bots. That has changed recently. And it is a serious downside of the medium. I’m thinking of restarting the daily blog thing.

Oddly enough, even though I have way more time at home, I’ve been having trouble focusing, and the frequency of my blog posting has declined. I’m working through it.https://respectfulinsolence.com/2020/04/28/erickson-massihi-bogus-epidemiology-covid-19/ …
