What evidence does @alexberezow cite? What he calls an "investigative report" on @NRO that cites that YouTube video going around pushing that conspiracy theory. 2/ https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/04/coronavirus-china-trail-leading-back-to-wuhan-labs/ …

Oddly enough,
@alexberezow even cites the@NatureMedicine paper that demonstrated conclusively that#SARSCoV2 was not engineered, and then blithely claims that that "doesn't mean it didn't come from a lab." 3/ https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-020-0820-9 …Show this thread -
The latest version of this conspiracy theory relies on a job posting for a scientist to study bat coronaviruses, the idea being that a newly discovered bat
#coronavirus somehow escaped the Wuhan lab. It's nonsense, of course. 4/Show this thread -
This embrace of conspiracy theory is yet one more reason not to take either
@alexberezow or@ACSHorg seriously as a reliable source of scientific information. They're astroturf and are becoming the Infowars of science communication. 5/5Show this thread

This is so dangerous. People are going to be killed by pushing unfounded theories like this. People want to blame others, and it looks like some are willing to give them a convenient target to divert from other things. The issues are things like why wasn't the world prepared.

People will be killed because of mandates that COVID positive patients remain in nursing homes. Theorizing as David Ignatius has done in the Washington Post that a virus escaped is plausible

This is food for conservatives and science deniers. They are going to use it as “SEE SEE!! Your own (once) liberal science/evidence based news supporting our position” It’s annoying and unfortunate.
