Like... I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but for the vast majority of Trump diehards, there will never be a "turning point". For them, he will become a martyr. He will be the Second Lost Cause. We need to be prepared for that because it'll hang over us for generations.

What is hard for me is that I have some really well-educated, smart, fiscally sound friends who love Trump. It is very hard for me. They are wonderful people in any other Realm but not when it comes to Trump. How do we explain this?

They were never wonderful people. That’s how.

They are wonderful only to people they know personally. But they can't relate to the abstract, faceless populace. To those faceless people, they can be cruel and vindictive without feeling like they've wronged someone.

More specifically, they are “wonderful” only to people like themselves whom they knew personally.; i.e., white people.

What does "not racist in person but support very racist policies" even mean? How are you making that distinction?

It's exactly the same as being nice to anyone in person but supporting cruel policies. The folks I know don't support the policies *because* they are racist, but the racism isn't a deal breaker.

Sorry, but they are racist. Perhaps not to you or in front of you, and probably not the screaming-the-n-word type, but the he-must've-done-something-to-deserve-being-shot type. That is still racism.

I agree. If you support racist policies, you are racist.
