        Every so often a food comes along touted as a superfood, spinach, acai berries etc. They never are.

        Still, I feel that having the products promoted as superfoods be normal, common, cheap, actually healthy foods like chickpeas, as opposed to some exotic cactus that can only be consumed in powder form, is a significant improvement.

        "Health food" is also not an official scientific term, is it? Doesn't necessarily mean it's out of place in an article about a certain food product having health benefits.

        Both terms are a reaction to "junk food." "Health food" became too common a term, so marketers needed to replace it. Telling people to eat a variety of fruits & veggies, with other food in moderation, doesn't make an exciting ad.
