I just checked: the patient actually received 2 tablets in the morning and 2 in the evening. If he received Nivaquine, it means 4x200mg daily.

Hydroxychloroquine is one thing (and even then, 800mg are twice the maximum long-term dose recommended for patients with lupus erythematosus...), chloroquine is another story. That drug has a pretty thin therapeutic index. And quite not the same safety profile.

Misleading interpretation: according to this Expressen newspaper article, this patient was using 2x200mg of chloroquine per day, i.e. substantially higher than the recommended dose for malaria prophylaxis. Moreover, there is no evidence that this was part of a clinical trial.
