Indeed. If hydroxychloroquine truly has a dramatic effect on the clinical course of #COVID19, we’d already have evidence for that. We don’t, which tells me that HCQ, if it even works at all, will likely be shown to have modest effects, at best.https://twitter.com/dfreedman7/status/1246580204417568771 …

I cannot watch the WH press briefings anymore. The President should not be giving out medical advice. When the dust settles and HCQ is shown to only have mild or no benefit, this will serve as a terrible case study in prescribing medicine by demand rather than by evidence. https://twitter.com/carlsmythe/status/1246565391784173569 …

Personally, I predict that, when the clinical trials are done, hydroxychloroquine will have been shown not to work against #COVID19, but I sincerely hope I’m totally wrong about this.

Hi David. What are you seeing in regards to ACE2 bp drugs like Telmisartan and Covid infection? I've heard speculation that they can increase ACE2 expression and therefore increase severe infections but I've also read of protective effects. Many are on these. What is real risk?

We don’t know, unfortunately, and thus far it’s only a theoretical risk.

Thanks. I guess I just keep isolated and wait for the data. Bad situation because right now the hazard of increased susceptibility to covid seems to outweigh risk of quitting bp meds. But i know that's backwards thinking. Tough time to be rational.

e4/ Updates in Clinical Manifestations of COVID-19 (symptoms, outcomes) JB describes heart problems (not just lungs), cardiac injury. Still unclear if ACE inhibitors/ARBs worsen or improve results. This uses much medical terminology I’d have to look up. https://youtu.be/UdUci2Y9QB8?t=2233 …
