Exactly, until High Quality Research is available there isn't enough information to make an "Informed Decision" on. Hope & Anecdotal Observations aren't enough to show effectiveness of Tx without control group. The initial 30 pt study had Flaws. 😕

Imho an informed decision is based on risk benefit equation. This is especially easy with anti malarials as they have a well known safety record. If have a 5% chance of a benefit and 1% chance of a negative effect easy decision when no real alternative.

I think this is especially important when considering giving these meds to someone who is not severely or critically ill and may not ever become so, with or without the meds. 2/n

I really think that should only be prescribed to the 20% that have serious symptoms or are at high risk of mortality, and also for first responders and healthcare personnel. Also hope for prophylaxis which would be great for the last two groups.

The French Pr. says it has to be prescribed BEFORE any serious symptoms. If you are using his views, you must use them in full. He advocates against using them for serious cases.

The early research also touts a 6-day 100% "cure" but a review of the data is missing participants. Some d/c & 1 fatality. Which is why the Quality of the Research is a component in the Risk/Benefit analysis.

Time is a huge factor here too. These guys are showing us a glimpse of a possible live-saver now, when real studies will take long past the peak of this virus.

I strongly disagree there. These studies could have been done differently in a similar time frame and given us much more reliable results. Here’s a preprint that, while not perfect, had much better study design than the Raoult studies. https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.03.22.20040758v1 …

Then, this begs the question, why are they not done?

They are being done... as to why the Raoult group made the choices they did, I have some rather cynical ideas about that.
