The problem with the discussion around hydroxychloroquine is it has become too politicized, as evidenced by the abundance of mentions in this article of how Trump recommended this treatment, including in the subtitle, and the lede. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/29/fda-emergency-authorization-anti-malaria-drug-155095 …

Here is the justification from the FDA for the emergency authorization. I view these statements as true. The EUA specifically mentions use only in hospitals when a trial is not available or not feasible. That's not so radical. https://www.fda.gov/emergency-preparedness-and-response/mcm-legal-regulatory-and-policy-framework/emergency-use-authorization#covidtherapeutics …pic.twitter.com/wyZ5YD67Q8

There is no good evidence suggesting it has any benefit in treating this. So that’s a problem.

agree, no good evidence it has clinical benefit. does the existing evidence of possible benefit outweigh the known and unknown risks, given no other treatments, and fact that RCT data won't happen for a while? in my view, yes.

There is no existing evidence of possible benefit. Seriously, there isn't. The only existing RCT was negative, and the French studies were uniquely uninformative.🙄

the existing 'negative' RCT was as uninformative as the French studies. I agree there is no high quality evidence of possible benefit. I disagree there is no existing evidence of any possible benefit.

It's all anecdotal, and it's potentially misleading. It's irresponsible to be promoting unproven treatments in a pandemic.

the in vitro data is not anecdotal. i'm not sure if you're referring to me promoting something or others. agree we shouldn't have public figures promoting unproven treatments in a pandemic.
