On Friday, Prof. Didier Raoult posted another study of azithromycin and hydroxychloroquine used against COVID-19. It is a single arm observational study of patients with mostly mild (or even asymptomatic) disease that is painfully uninformative.https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/hydroxychloroquine-and-azithromycin-versus-covid-19/ …

A nice dissection of Raoult’s first paper. Now they should do the new one. The problem is, I fear that Raoult can publish crap studies faster than we can shoot them down. https://annals.org/aim/fullarticle/2764065/rush-judgment-rapid-reporting-dissemination-results-its-consequences-regarding-use …

I'm utterly disgusted that the FDA has approved this because Trump promoted it. Docs will use their own judgement and I realize options are few for treatment but I wouldn't want this drug not knowing the long term effects and given the risks.

What about the Zelensky study? Larger and more recent. Quite impressive.

Is it wrong that I really hope hydroxychloroquine works to reduce viral load? I wish we had something to give health care workers prophylactically until they develop a vaccine.

By the way, this study is recruiting across the US. https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04308668?type=Intr&cond=Covid&map_cntry=US&map_state=US%3ANY&draw=2&rank=7 … They’re recruiting HCWs with recent COVID19 exposure for prophylaxis or treatment if symptomatic. Non-HCWS also eligible if symptomatic or household contact of confirmed case.
