Yes, that reimbursement setup is a major flaw in how we pay for healthcare that contributes to why the US pays more per capita for healthcare without equally excellent outcomes. It’s also why primary care is poorly paid compared to procedure-oriented subspecialties.

Actually, in my defense, breast surgery is one of the most poorly reimbursed specialties. Ditto a lot of general surgery relative to the acuity.

I mean compared to surgical specialties like orthopedics and even procedure-oriented medical specialties like interventional cardiology. I actually make a lot less than the radiologists at my cancer center.
