From the last couple of days the hype over the Chloroquine (CQ) and Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) treatment for #COVID19 has bothered me a lot. So I have decided to dig into the available & published data. What is the evidence right now for treating #COVID19 patients with CQ or HCQ?

Oh wow in real time in an effort to find something that works they didn't run a perfect double blind, randomized control trial with a sufficient sample size. The horror! Right now even anecdotal evidence is good enough for me

No one is complaining that this is a preliminary trial. We do pilot trials all the time. What is being criticized is that it is a BAD pilot trial whose authors didn't analyze the data correctly and leapt to publicize a conclusion not justified by the observations.

Yes, a slapdash trial, BUT it stands on the shoulders of 15 - if my count is right - Chinese clinical trials + consensus recommendations. Do we discount those for being Chinese?

I've been unable to find the actual clinical trials. All I could find was a brief paper describing the recommendations. Have the data even been published yet?

Is this what you saw - a letter to Bioscience Trends? There's reference there to a slew of registered trials in China. I have not seen data/analysis, but consensus recs for a nation of 1.4B carries some weight. https://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/bst/14/1/14_2020.01047/_pdf/-char/en …

And? . . . I'm pretty sure Italy, Israel and Belgium have all adopted China's recommendations including HCQ as a first line agent. And I'm willing to bet there are many countries, as well.

So one guy - no, one guy AND wife - hack a fishtank formulation to protect against sars-cov-2, and this is evidence that health ministries of several technologically sophisticated nations have lost their collective minds? I'm still betting on real antiviral activity.
