From the last couple of days the hype over the Chloroquine (CQ) and Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) treatment for #COVID19 has bothered me a lot. So I have decided to dig into the available & published data. What is the evidence right now for treating #COVID19 patients with CQ or HCQ?

Oh wow in real time in an effort to find something that works they didn't run a perfect double blind, randomized control trial with a sufficient sample size. The horror! Right now even anecdotal evidence is good enough for me

No one is complaining that this is a preliminary trial. We do pilot trials all the time. What is being criticized is that it is a BAD pilot trial whose authors didn't analyze the data correctly and leapt to publicize a conclusion not justified by the observations.

And now New York is using these drugs in mass quantities. Guess the trial wasn't nearly as bad as you thought

That's panic. I went back and read the trial again. It's even worse than I thought. Here are some reasons.https://twitter.com/GaetanBurgio/status/1241210566670086144?s=20 …

Dr Gaetan Burgio, MD, PhD. @GaetanBurgioBut the one that interests me is the French open-labeled non randomized clinical trial on HCQ + Azithromycin against#COVID19 infection, largely publicized. Details are here https://www.mediterranee-infection.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Hydroxychloroquine_final_DOI_IJAA.pdf … pic.twitter.com/KPbaUgIgAfShow this thread1 reply 1 retweet 11 likes -
Journals are so keen to publish CoVid articles that they ignore quality peer review

What's surprising is that it comes from the group of someone who is considered one of the top scientists in France. He should know how to do this right.

Then I am even more willing to just accept the results even thiugh they weren't documented perfectly. If one of the top scientists in the world tells me something works and can show me the end result, I don't need to see all his work.

Science is about checking each other's work. Even good scientists screw up. This time, with this study, the screwup was epic. This study basically shows nothing.

And yet the Governor of New York who everyone has been praising for how he has handled this is using it and going to be giving this combo to thousands of patients

Well, then, the governor made a bad decision. This drug combination is not benign.
