THREAD: This @BretStevensNYT column is a great example of how a bright, often very insightful, person can sound like a blithering idiot when wandering into science subjects w/o humility. Some good lessons here, tho./1

In fairness,
@BretStevensNYT sounds like a blithering idiot when he discusses climate science as well. So why wouldn’t he also sound like a blithering idiot about#COVID19?1 reply 2 retweets 12 likes -
When one notices that "oh no, this writer I usually like is talking about my field and sounds like an idiot!" it's time to be a lot more suspicious about their insights on topics you don't know as much about. They may just be a well-spoken idiot.

I do not judge esayists by how often I agree w/ them, but by: - How much reading them provides useful food for thought, - Do they try to be honest, & - Do they lay out their think process clearly.
@BretStevensNYT checks all 3 boxes, even tho I disagree w/ his conclusions often /12 replies 0 retweets 0 likes
TBH, I don’t think Stephens is honest at all about climate science. He misrepresents the science trots out the same denialist talking points and cherry picked data, and his “reasoning” on climate science (if you can call it that) is DEEPLY flawed.
