I see so many Tweets saying that the case fatality rate of #COVID19 is "only" 1% and that most of the fatalities occur in the old. Well, my parents are over 80, an age group for which the case fatality rate is at least 15%, not to mention with a high risk of being in the ICU.https://twitter.com/casempire/status/1237431712721838080 …

So many people seem to be completely nonchalant about the potential demise of the most vulnerable 30% of the society, it sometimes feels like eugenics never truly went away and it's now raising its ugly head again.

Wondering what's behind the concern about elderly and ill traveling? The ~2.3% average fatality rate doesn't convey the elevated risk to the elderly, and typical flu. Compare 20 vs 70 yr old risk below. #publichealth #business insider#publichealth #businessinsider pic.twitter.com/mM5hsI0afb

These cases are going to overwhelm the ICU’s . So if you’re not in that vulnerable group you may not get appropriate and timely treatment for things like a stroke or a STEMI

To desert goddess, totally off topic, but where did you get the “Judik “ name from? It’s a family name of mine and quite rare. Dutch?

My parents are in their 70s, one is a diabetic and the other one has hypertension. They've survived cancer and stroke. They're healthy, happy, active people, but I'm scared for them. One would assume we all have someone more vulnerable in our lives whom we love. Apparently not 😕

I keep hearing it’s “just” the old & those with pre-existing conditions. Ok, so as someone with asthma, guess I’m expendable & it’s ok to those ppl?

You, my friend and my father-in-law have asthma. Not one of you is expendable. I had pneumonia when I was in my 30s when I was fit and healthy- it was awful. I have crossed my fingers and toes for all of you.
