I tried it. There is no way I could eat 500 calories 2 days a week long term. If others can, awesome.https://twitter.com/CaulfieldTim/status/1229505647051296768 …

I've lost more than 20 pounds and huge strides controlling my blood sugar with portion control. IF might be better for some people, but it isn't for me.

Portion control, calorie counting, and exercise have allowed me to drop over 40 lbs. in a year and a half. Now that I’ve finally hit my target weight, things are getting...interesting...as I try to figure out how much I can eat without starting to gain the weight back.

I need to lose about 40lbs myself. I start running last September, dropped beer, and thought the weight would melt off. Now I am up to 4 miles nonstop running (usually 10 miles a week cumulatively), and feel great for it, but haven't lost a single pound! Calorie counting time.

One thing I learned when I started riding a bicycle for exercise is that exercise doesn't burn nearly as many calories as people think it does. I went your route, riding 15-20 miles three times a week, sometimes more, and I lost no significant weight for over a year.

It was only when I started counting calories that I began to lose weight, but it was slow. It was then only after I bought an app and became fanatical about counting calories that I lost 3-4 lbs a month consistently over a year, with an interruption around the time of my surgery.

I got an app to estimate how many calories I was burning by bike riding, I was shocked to discover that riding 15 miles only burned maybe 1000-1200 calories. So now I ride for cardio, but don't expect riding to help me much keeping the weight off. Only calorie restriction will.

Completely agree. For me, I lose about 100 calories/mile. I started tracking my calorie consumption and that's when it really changed. Please continue exercising though!!! It's benefits go far beyond weight loss.

I just exercise for health. I feel better, know it is prevnatative care, and a good stress reducer!!

I do a lot of pep talk for myself during strength training (which I hate). "This is crucial to ward off osteoporosis, Maie. Keep it together! Strength is power!"

I really need to start doing some strength conditioning. Relying primarily on bicycling for exercise is great for cardio and has made my legs really strong, but the rest of the body needs some work…

Ellipticals. People trash talk them but if you crank the resistance to max it's actually a decent full body workout that can be done relatively quickly. Low impact, and at high resistance it engages most of your body.

They certainly aren't for everyone. They force my legs to be too far apart and that ends up putting pressure on my knees and lower back. I would much rather a spin bike.

Of course, part of the problem is my cervical radiculopathy. Surgery took care of the pinched nerve causing severe pain and weakness quite well, but, alas, it couldn't stop the degenerative processes that lead to the more chronic low-level aches and pains I have in my neck.
