ah. well, definitely in old man yells at cloud territory, then. kids these days, with their low quality DAC's, making music, they got no respect, they probably couldn't tell tape distortion from an overdriven ribbon mic. If it doesn't have a Leslie speaker jack, it's garbage.

iPhone ads are publicizing how artists shoot entire music videos on their phone. Reminds me of the 80's, when musicians started laying down tracks on inexpensive keyboards with built-in sequencers. There was a lot of pulp, but also a lot of innovation.

But these sorts of ads aren't really targeting professionals. I recall when computer drawing programs first were available we all thought it would make us artists. But no, you still have to have talent. Apple needs the would-be artists as well as the real ones to be successful.

It kind of depends on your view of quality. I recall in the old book "The technique of the sound studio" the author decried the use of fuzz boxes because distortion should always be avoided when recording.
